Prime Minister Modi Presents Unique Gifts to World Leaders During Ongoing Visit to US and India
During his visit to the United States, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with US Vice President Kamala Harris, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga. As a special gesture, PM Modi gave them gifts.
He handed US Vice President Kamala Harris a copy of old notifications about his grandfather, Shri PV Gopalan, in a handcrafted wooden frame.
Shri PV Gopalan was a respected senior government official who held various positions. He also endowed Vice President Harris with a Gulabi Meenakari chess. The intricate details of each piece of this chess set show that it is remarkably handcrafted. The bright colors reflect the vibrancy of Kashi, one of the oldest cities in the world.
Prime Minister Modi offered a silver medal Gulabi Meenakari ship to his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison. The vessel is distinctly handcrafted, reflecting Kashi’s dynamism.
To his Japanese counterpart, PM Modi presented a sandalwood Buddha statue. Buddhism in Japan has been practiced since the 6th century. In addition, it plays a major role in bringing India and Japan together. During his previous visits to Japan, Prime Minister Modi had visited Buddhist temples.
Also earlier, the Prime Minister had made such gestures during his meetings with former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Queen Elizabeth and former Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
During his trip to Israel, Prime Minister Modi presented Netanyahu with replicas of 2 sets of copper plates from Kerala which are believed to be inscribed in the 9-10th century CE.
In addition, he gifted the British monarch with award-winning Darjeeling tea from the Makaibari tea plantation in West Bengal.
He offered it with organic honey from J&K.
For Rouhani, the Prime Minister presented specially commissioned reproductions of Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib’s collection of poetry in Persian, known as Kulliyat-e-Farsi-e-Ghalib.
During his meeting with former US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Modi presented a variety of gifts. This included a hand-made Himachali silver bracelet, tea and honey from the Kangra Valley, hand-woven shawls from Jammu and Kashmir.
The gift collection also included a wooden chest with an intricate inlaid pattern.
