Valentine’s Market to showcase unique gifts

The market promises to provide an exciting addition to a day of Saturday shopping in Lisburn town centre. This will give shoppers the opportunity to continue supporting local independent artisans whether or not you are celebrating the Day of Love.

Commenting on this new addition to the council’s range of artisan catering events, Alderman Amanda Grehan, Chair of the Development Committee, said: “We are really looking forward to delivering a new version of our popular catering events this month. this by organizing the month of February. Valentine’s Day themed market in Castle Gardens, Lisburn. Whether you’ve been struck by Cupid’s arrow and are looking for the perfect gifts for your loved ones this Valentine’s Day or want to support local merchants with your Saturday shopping, we expect a wide range of visitors explore the variety of special treats, handmade crafts and delicious dishes on display.”

For the sweet tooth, Lisburn Valentines Market will proudly offer decadent pastries from Lisburn’s own Blixt Bakery and Rosie McNeill Cakes with The Daily Apron bringing their award-winning sourdough and traditional breads. Nicholas Dennison, a local teenage farmer from Rock Road Farm, will proudly showcase his rare breed pork, including bacon, pork shoulder and chops, which are sure to add a special touch to your weekend meals.

Ald Amanda Grehan, chair of the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council Development Committee (right), joins Lisburn’s Blixt Bakery owner Zara Shiels and Daisy the Dalmatian to launch the upcoming Valentine’s Market. Scheduled to take place in Castle Gardens, Lisburn from 10.00am to 2.00pm on Saturday 12th February, the market will give shoppers the opportunity to support local independent producers, including artisan food and drink traders, food trucks and the crafts, as well as offering free activities and crafts for children. Serving up on-the-go artisan treats for market shoppers, Urban Street Grub will be offering their loaded nachos while The Rovin Stove will be delighting customers with their signature menu that’s sure to have a seasonal twist. Ret Ro’s Grilled Cheese will be a real treat for cheese lovers and The Curious Farmer is launching their new Loaded Baked Potatoes using produce from their own farm.

There will be a selection of crafts from Ellie Mac Candles, Lisa’s Buttons & Bows and handmade jewelery from Pink Pepper Designs, all showcasing their range of products, among others. The diverse range reflects the thriving community of creative and top quality growers located in the Lisburn Castlereagh area.

Free entertainment will also be offered to guests of all ages. Throughout the day, the musical groups Harmony Ladies Choir and Lisburn Uke’s will join singer-songwriter Kyle J. Suckling. Meanwhile, children can participate in the Valentine’s Day craft workshop and come away with their own handmade gift to take home.
